Moon landing spurs documentary by local filmmakers

The celebration of the moon landing in July came and went about as quickly as one of the original rocket blastoffs. The flurry of interviews and reporting sparked by the 50th anniversary of the moon walk has died down, and now two area filmmakers have been busy putting together their own documentary on Delaware's crucial link to the historic event.

Dover's small step in the space race

DOVER — It’s well-known local lore that when Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin set foot on the moon 50 years ago they did so clad in Delaware-made duds. 

No easy task, the creation of the space suits required the efforts of a small army of craftsmen and women who were brought together at ILC Dover to ultimately make Mr Armstrong’s “small step for man” possible on July 20, 1969.

Kent Levy Court pledges $25,000 to help fund ILC Dover documentary

DOVER — If local filmmaker TJ Healy has his way, Netflix viewers might one day scroll past an ILC Dover documentary that catalogs the local latex firm’s contribution to the Apollo 11 moon landing. 

As of Tuesday night, the project will partially be brought to you by the taxpayers of Kent County. 

Kent County Levy Court commissioners voted unanimously at their Tuesday business meeting to contribute $25,000 to the project in two stages.
